Ava Brackett

Recent graduate from CSULB BCCM with a Bachelor's in Music Composition.

I have been studying music for most of my life. I started by playing the violin in elementary school. Also, the school would introduce music to classrooms by teaching the classes songs and having the classes perform these songs. I enjoyed my experience with music in elementary school, and it encouraged me to keep playing violin in middle school and high school. I decided I wanted to pursue a career involving music. I decided to go to Long Beach City College to Major in music in the hopes of becoming a music therapist. I took theory, musicianship, history, performance classes and private lessons during my time at LBCC. I then transferred to California State University, Long Beach in 2021, and received a Bachelor's in Music Composition. At CSULB, I took advanced music theory and history courses, orchestration, media scoring, performance ensembles, and violin and composition lessons. As a General Music instructor, I want to explain the different instruments of the orchestra, instruments in pop music, brief music history, how to read music, and music cultures. I am also open to explaining and discussing anything music related my students want to discuss, and can hopefully answer any questions they have always been confused about. I want my students to have fun during class and appreciate music even more after coming out of my lessons. I can also tutor for any non-music major music class in high school or college.

Student-centric and versatile multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and recording artist

Want to make music but don't know where to begin? With tutoring in General Music, we work on the fundamentals of pitch, rhythms, and dynamics (loud, soft, and articulation) and put back together for efficient music-making through the Gentle Release Model and Universal Backwards Design approaches that are incorporated for self-efficacy. My expertise in the field of music and education is wide-ranging and allows for students to set, achieve, and exceed goals quickly. As an experienced recording artist and producer, I've composed and performed in all genres. From Musical Theater to Latin Jazz, Big Band Jazz to Heavy Metal, they all use the 12-note scale and vertical/horizontal grids with instrument-intuitive techniques to compose. Since I am a multi-instrumentalist and advanced music theoretician, helping students learn how to make music through their own bodies and instruments is something I am very passionate about. In education, I have taught any and all kinds of music classes with during and after school programs for grade PreK-high school, as well as professional development for classroom teachers in music integration practices across the US in-person and online. When I continued my own education with a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, it was to focus on online education techniques for all ages. With innovative technologies constantly evolving, I love keeping up with the different hardware and software that allows myself and students to execute amazing music-making no matter where we are!
